Mere Baap Pehle Aap - Notepad

This page has additional observations, other than the ones noted in the main review.

Quick Review

A casual friendly relationship between dad and son could have worked if the movie were about 30 minutes shorter. Otherwise, it is the usual Priyadarshan fare.

Plot Summary

Gaurav (Akshaye Khanna) is frustrated with his father (Paresh Rawal) getting into trouble because of his friend (Om Puri). Meanwhile, he is also being harassed by a stranger, Rose (Genelia D’Souza).

What worked

Nothing really! Except for the broad concept.

What didn’t

Note: This section simply lists the things that I did not like in this movie. This is not the overall impression about this movie. Please read the full review here
  • There was something terribly wrong in the way some of the scenes were recorded. The voices were echoing as they would in a theatrical play.
  • Rane-Mathur (Paresh Rawal-Om Puri) trying and failing miserably in pulling a Jai-Veeru (where Veeru asks Jai to ask the girl’s hand in marriage on his behalf).
  • How come Rose calls Gaurav on his landline numbers when the visiting card she gets actually has only a mobile number on it?
  • The side-side actors were really awful! E.g. the prostitute in the park
  • How come the “nana-nani” park had no kids and no play area? How come it was populated by young couples?
  • Wasn’t Bapu (Paresh Rawal) dancing like Dev Anand? Then why does Shikha mention Shammi Kapoor?
  • Why are we never shown what “teacher” is actually thinking? It feels like a huge gap!
  • As usual, the comic relief Rajpal Yadav suddenly disappears from the story line.
  • The scene between Om Puri and Paresh Rawal could have worked so well, only if it were half the duration.
  • The sudden transformation of Rupali, Paresh Rawal’s older daughter-in-law.

Nitty-Gritty

This section lists things that I think are not important to the overall impact of the movie. In most cases, it could be explained away by something like, “we noticed the glitch after the scene was shot and there were schedule/budget issues and thus we could not re-shoot it”. I like giving the makers the benefit of doubt, but I am amused nevertheless. Hopefully, they will tickle you too.
  • Which grocery store has a snack section that is spacious enough for two adults to run around beating up each other?

    Hi Meetu,

This movie is a remake of a mallu movie by name ISHTAM.
    Ishtam was a memorable movie.

I wonder why Priyan is so pathetic even while remaking an “already-made” movie.

    Regards
    Sriram
